Whose Peace: Reading Nuclear Archives Transimperially

Canadian Communication Association,

June,  2026
This paper develops a transimperial perspective on the Cold War-era narratives of nuclear testing to understand how the declared competition between empires concealed the colonial violence. Reading nuclear colonialism transimperially, means seeing it as enacted by both Western and non-Western empires, through both competition and collaboration between them.
I argue that reading nuclear archives transimperially allows for dismantling the narratives of “competition between empires”, providing grounds for translocal solidarity.
